Happy Days
« on: February 05, 2012, 03:28:15 PM »
I just had a brilliant morning, had one of my chippies eat from my hand.
Normally they take the food and run off. But today he stayed and ate it. It was a shame the picture is not too good.
I think he's a bit camera shy. I think he's called Theodore. Hard to tell as he is not facing camera lol.
The other one is called Alvin. Alvin likes coming out the cage and if you don't let him he takes a nip out your had/finger to try and make you move your hand so he can escape.  :happy7:
Will up load the picture later

Brilliant isn’t it when they do that. They will only get tamer as they get older, you just have to take your time with em. Before you know it they will climbing all over you looking for treats.  ;D

Yea hopefully I got them from a pet shop and not very tame. Haven't let them out that often trying to get a bond with them first so they don't run too far away and hard to catch.

What is the type of treat I can give them I have tried fruits, sultarners/raisns, mixed dried fruit and veg but haven't found that own type of food that they will jump for and get them excited. Any ideas?

Thanks Scot

Mine also love orange and apple.  If you work in Asda just keep an eye out and get them the wee packs of mixed nuts (reduced).  Never gave any fresh banana, but I have used the dried sort u find in cereals.  Mine love the treats from pets at home etc, the type u can hang and the circle type ones.  I generally hang them somewhere awkward so they have to work for it, and it doesn't vanish in 15 minutes.

a tip too, if you have an empty jar of peanut butter/jam/marmalade or honey or anything u think they mite like, even chocolate spread, just empty some mealworms or seeds in an mix it up and just put the jar in the cage mine love this :icon_thumleft: if they get sticky their partners will clean em up :sign10:

I find they're not too keen on fresh banana tho they do nibble a bit. They LOVE the sesameseed and sunflower seeds off ASDA's sunflowewr and Sesame seeded rolls and I have the rest of the roll for lunch.  ASDA should be sponsoring this forum!

Mine love fresh corn on the cob. When it's (£1 for two cobs), a reasonable price, I put a whole one in between 2 chips .... they love it.  Yes, they also love roses (the flowers) and flowers and strip the stems and flower.
