shredded paper is good and hay......how far do you have to travel with them? if its not far then I wouldn't worry about putting anything else in with them, they'll be fine

I put in strips of kitchen paper a bit of hay and some nuts/seeds for them to dig about and eat. Our chippies loved the hanging bird pockets from The Range to snuggle up in apart from they chewed the bit that hangs the pocket so every now and then they'd drop down  :sign10:

i bought my nest boxes off ebay
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/CRITTER-HUT-DEN-HOUSE-RATS-CHIPMUNKS-/300565557088?pt=UK_Pet_Supplies_Small_Animals&hash=item45fb1a6f60

and the bedding is a mixture of compified, tissuees and shreaded kitchen towels. For only half an hour i wouldnt worry about putting much in the carry case, i had to travel for 3 hours with my first one and he just hid in a box the whole journey, and when he got into his cage he hid in a tube for another 24 hours before plucking up the courage to explore

My one's built her nest out of hay and tissue paper, and only uses the nest box to store nuts in.
It was about an hour's train ride and a 20 minute walk home in the travel box with her, which was just full of sawdust, which she'd burried herself in. (Funny story, I got her home and opened the box, and I didn't see a chipmunk! I panicked thinking she'd escaped the box or something  :P )

I got some budgie boxes from local pet store(not a national chain) for £5.00 each.

hi tarcus, PMd you

I keep budgies - where did you get budgie nestboxes for £5?  :)

Re the chippies, I think budgie boxes are a bit small, I got two slightly damaged (though I couldn't find the damage) cockatiel nestboxes for £7 the two from Pets at Home and the chips love them. Plenty of room for stashing nuts etc and sleeping above. Above the nuts that is, not sleeping on the roof!

A while ago I took the nestbox out and removed the majority of 6.5lbs of nuts and other goodies as I saw their sleeping quarters had gradually risen and was pushing off the roof.  :D

4 chipmunks
1 tank of tropical fish
1 tank of coldwater fish.

We looked at budgie boxes and others but they were not sturdy enough for use in an outdoor enclosure, so we decided to make our own. my dad makes them, he uses thick wood and hes done a great job at making them. frost doesnt get in and they will last for years
