I think I know what you are looking for its a box within a box or a nest box with a windbreak in the door. I have a large 3ft x 2ft x2ft box with a hinged lid inside my aviary which has holes in the top for the chips to go in and inside this I have a couple of nest boxes. The box is filled with shredded paper to keep in the heat  while the nest boxes are filled with hay/straw and old fleece hats. Another type is where you make a nest box but use an L shaped entrance to stop the wind entering directly through the door. Harder to make and usually easier to buy from pet stores who cater for the likes of owls. Hope this is what you mean.Try looking on owl websites they may have internal pictures.

Yeah thats right a box within a box to try and keep heat in and draughts out. The box mine has at the moment is an extremely well built box, deep and long with thick wood to keep frost out. But i was wanting to put another wooden box round it and fill with insuilating stuff

Heres some of my Chipmunks aviary houses, they are all similar inside, i have their food bowls, nest boxes and litter trays. The first two houses were wire meshed inside since they are part of the original structure and if the Chippies chewed through the wood they would escape. The newer houses are built completely inside the aviaries so we only meshed where each house joined onto the another so the Chipmunks can't chew into the other house.

you could always use some thick conducting tubing for an entrance, save making an L shaped box to keep the wind out, just coil it round a bit so the wind cant travel straight thru it :dontknow:
