i give mine all shelled nuts, only some can get thru a walnut, but none av got thru a brazil yet
but my degus make short work of both

By the way, does it seem like how fluffed up their tails are shows their mood? It seems like when she's excited or angry her tail puffs up, and she lifts it up high, and when she's chilled out, the hairs go down and she wraps it around herself

they can mean a number of things mine puff up when playful n excited, n go flat when angry or chased angrily by another
