Strimmer sound?
« on: May 18, 2011, 07:52:06 PM »
Hi

ok, so I was outside and with my chippies and they are both playing on their wheels.. when I hear a Strimmer going off about 2 houses down.. well both my chippies went quiet and was fasinated by the sound of this and was comming up to the front of their enclosure and was listening in...

then, one of my males (both males btw) started chirping, only a couple of sounds... ive never heard them before, was quite a shock.. :D then as the strimmer was going you could hear a faint squeek it was making (like if it needed oiling...lol) well the chippies were listening intensly by it all.

anyone know why? and why the chirping?  :icon_scratch:

the chirping high pitch sound that they make (sounds like a bird) means that they are scared and it acts as their danger call to warn others. Mine make this sound when they see my cats neat their cage or when birds make a similar sound.

Oh thankyou.. The pitch wasnt that high.. more of call you make when you are calling a cat over..(if you know what i mean?) .like a chirping, rather than squeek... but they are still only youngsters at the moment.. so i expect they were scared.. awww bless them  :sad10:

Yeah i noticed that as babies they are kinda like practising ther call so they get it right but it still means the same thing. like one of my babies tried making the call but clicked as well (like when u click with your tongue) it sounded well weird but it still did it because it was scared
