New babies for Hermione - born 6th April 2011

Pictures from friday, the babies are getting so big. I had a few climbing on me so i think they are starting to get more confident.

The babies weighed themselves i used mealworms to get them on the scales. Hermione is 122g

The babies turned 7 weeks old wednesday night and are starting to mob me now when i go in, it started with just one baby climbing on me but yesterday i had six Chippies incl Hermione jump on me and search in my pockets for treats. I'll be getting more blurry pictures as the babies hardly stay still but it is good to see them running around.

Thursday the weather was appalling. It had been windy since the weekend but thursday we had thunder and lightening, wind and hailstones. The babies didn't panic too much i expected them to be really scared but they just stayed up high so they remained quite dry. It was only during the hail they disappeared into their house.

The mobbing is a testament to how much they love you.               

It shows that you have developed an amazing bond with Hermione's babies.  This is what I call truely hand raised, tame chipmunks.  It also shows what food bribery can do!     


                    Take that you U.S. chipmink mill and colony breeders. 

        Jenny and the UK hobby breeders are the way to go regarding breeding and raising chipminks!

Marci, i didn't really do much food bribary i was going to but one baby got curious on its own watching Hermione jump on me and started to copy and soon the rest were also copying but i do give them treats when they come to me so they will like it even more lol they are getting to be very friendly little munks

I have sorted the photos of Hermione's babies out but still have some of the other litters to do.

They are now in one of the new aviaries, Willow and her babies are now in the aviary Hermione and her litter used to be in.

For now above the nestbox is a temp roof just to hopefully extra protect their box from the rain but the main aviary roof is wired at the moment. Eventually we are looking at a corrogated plastic roof but for now we will be putting up a basic wood roof so we can focus on getting the other aviaries done then look at doing the roof again and building some nestboxes.

I managed to weigh Hermione and the babies today sometimes they just don't cooporate but they were pretty good today i was curious to see how near to adult weight they are now since they haven't been weighed for two weeks.

Hermione: 113g
Boy 1: 102g
Boy 2: 111g
Girl 1: 106g
Girl 2: 88g
Girl 3: 89g
