Chipmunks and televisions!
« on: February 23, 2009, 10:44:59 PM »
Hi, what does everyone think about keeping Chipmunks near televisions, i have read that Chipmunks do not like the frequency they admit which we cannot hear and it can cause stress but mine have always seemed fine, i just wondered how much truth is in it

I think it is true and been proven, but I think it only applies to the older type with a tube, its something to do with oscillation.

Some reports say it gives them epileptic fits. I wonder if this applies to LCD's. Does it have the same strobing effect as the big old TV's?

As the poor little things can't talk and no one seems to know for sure, I'm not prepared to take the risk and my chippies are in a TV and PC free room

I believe this comes from when there were lots of older cathode ray televisions which would give out an ocolating mains hum at 60 Hz, which the chipmunks did not like the sound of.

I have LCD TV's and PC monitors since i kept chipmunks and this does not bother them at all. I believe they are OK with LCD screens as many a time mine will sit on top of the monitors for the warm when they're on.  ;D
I am careful not to have the sound up, i use head phones, as my chipmunks will be in bed by early evening, and i don't think it's fair they should hear all strange noises coming from the TV speakers.

Modern flat panel monitors and TV don't have valves in them so should not give off that mains hum, a lot now run at 100 Hz or above.

We have an old tv set but are thinking of replacing it with a flat screen soon

This will make u laugh it did me and yes I am nuts  ;)
The other night my husband was looking on sky for something to watch, when Lucky got out of bed and sat looking at the tv.
My husband could not find anything to watch and put the news on. Lucky looked at us both (not very happy) then turned and went back to bed  :D
I like to watch the motorbike racing and the chips seem to sit and watch um as well, no matter what time of day  ;D
