Getting there with cage!

hello everyone

sorry i am posting a lot of new topics but i want to know absolutely EVERYTHING 

Right, in the next 30 mins i will post the new pics of the cage just to show how it is and any advice to make it better

i know its small  but ive tried hard and i will let them out a lot 

and if it is possible could some people post pics of their aviarys/cages ? Just so i can see what everyones elses is like? Thanks

Last thing, is Hawthorn tree okay for chipmunks as I have put a bit of that in the cage

  keep going it gets better the longer you have them, Hawthorn is fine they will love the bark and strip it in time.....

my cage looks good but it is a tad too small 

But yeah me and my dad have decided to get them next saturday now, just gives us time to get the cage just right

The cage looks good, your very good at D.I.Y.

Only problem you might have is they could chew the wood, thats what happened with my old cage the one posted above. With the aviaries we covered all wood. But the cage looks well made. I like the design with the platforms.

yeahh my dad is very good with DIY

i have been told it is too small and i do think it is a tad too small!
but i think it is a decent size

im doing some more on it tonight hopefully i will get the rest of the mesh on

could they bite their way out or anything?

hopefully my little chippies will like the design too

Oh your dad made it. My grandad built my first cage.

Whats the dimentions? It looked quite a reasonable size from the pictures about the size of my old cage which was 3 1/2 foot length by 1 1/2 foot width (thats abit small, 2 1/2 or three foot would of been better but my grandad had to transport it to my house so it couldn't be huge) by six foot high. Maybe it looks bigger in the photos 

Yes thats what i was meaning the wood could be gnawed/bitten out of. They have to chew to keep the teeth worn down as they constantly grow. My old cage had a wooden back wall which they started to bite through. The wood was thick but already they had done quite alot of damage in a short time so we abandoned the cage, they would of chewed through eventually and we bought cages instead which i wasn't happy about. I wanted to mend the cage but dad said no. The shop cages are really not big enough.

My White babies are chewers too they chewed one of their toys up and has chewed at the shelves but they can't bite out of the aviary as its completely meshed all the wood leading to outside. I'm glad we did that even though it was more work.
 
I really hope they don't gnaw your cage it would be a shame after all the work been put into it.

Thats what happened with my aviaries. My dad did most of it i just did some stapling and hammering. I made the shelves which is the first thing i've made myself they aren't perfect but the Chippies seem to like them. To be honest my indoor ones don't do much, they sit around alot or eat. Abigail digs alot she kicks wood shavings everywhere. The cages aren't big enough for them to do much which is why i want to make/buy new ones which are more decent in size. The ones outside run around alot, they hardly sit still, they climb along ropes, they have branches fruit-tree ones and conifors they climb/chew. They like to pull leaves off fresh branches. They sunbathe on the shelf and often rest up there, spend alot of time digging and burying food. They run in wheels which the White babies spend almost all their time in.

i have 2 watching perch areas
and im having one running wheel and a few branches as you can see in the pics.

and i still need some nest boxes

and a couple of hammocks.

also i cut out a pocket from my old jeans to clip to the side of the cage

Ok about the same size as mine then. If i make cages for my indoor ones i'll make them a similar size, they can't be huge as we don't have much room. We didn't want them indoors again anyway so they have to make do with what we can do. My mum particularly is very put out they are back inside.

Oh yeah i have a hammock which they love.

They will love the pocket, great idea. Mine always nose in my pockets to look for treats.

Thats great glad you are finally getting some, you will love them. I first wanted some in 1997 but had to wait until 1998 before i got them.

I've kept Chipmunks 12 years, had them since i was 12 years old.

They should love those, mine enjoying shreading toilet tubes to add to the nest.
