Mine dont drink
« on: January 22, 2009, 08:30:37 AM »
Is it normal for Chipmunks not to drink, our 3 never ever have a drink. We put fresh fruit in so am hoping they get enough liquid from that but can someone let me know?

Hi Julie

I think your will be drinking, I looked through some of your earlier posts to refresh my memory of your set up. You mentioned you were both out during most of the day, so perhaps you've just missed the times when they drink.  As I'm with them most of the day I will hear one of them having a go at the water bottle at least once a day. I give mine far too much fruit, so I think if they could get all the moisture from fruit they would not need to drink, but they seem to. Don't know if I've mentioned it before, but mine have a passion for Zazoo strawberry milkshake, they often prefer that over water. It's not a dairy product which they mine have all had since young, so it's not done them any harm. It was one of those chance discoveries i think when i may have been drinking some which got stolen from me.  ;D

Thanks Nate, I think I will try that as to be honest even if we are in all day I have never seen them go for water. In our area however, the water isnt that great and can sometimes taste irony so it could be that its really hard to tell. At the moment we dont even see our chipmunks, dont know if the two girls are hibernating inside but they wont come out of their beds and their food is never touched, just getting a bit over cautious probably.
