Peeing in bx
« on: May 26, 2010, 03:53:43 PM »
Hi can anyone advice me on what I think is a problem, I have some boxes in the aviary spare but they  pee and soil  the boxes as if they are using them as a toilet. Is this normal for chipmunks does anyone know. The floor of the aviary has would bark on it and in the corner there is a grow bag so there is soil about. But they obviously do not berry there nuts where they wee etc. makes sense really. But what do other chips do when they go to the loo in your aviary's do you have a box. for them to soil in !

what's the answer

i think its trial and error really, some of my chips use hamster toilets and are really clean and a couple go wherever they like and one in particular uses an empty house but thats the only place she goes  :dontknow:

Hi Sarah, just interested how you keep the nest box clean, for awhile Asriel and Hermione were using a spare nest box for a toilet and it quickly got all horrible, i tried cleaning it but was no good so had to remove it.

The Dilutes now have a litter tray and do use it sometimes but not always, some of them probably the babies are using a corner by the door for the toilet and of course i always end up with dirty hay on my head when i open the door. My Bailey and Abigail in my other aviary use a litter tray and they are very good, it does make cleaning their aviary easier.

Hey :hello: I clean it out very two days otherwise it smells to high heaven! In asda and tesco there is a disinfectant called azora, small clear bottle in different fragrances, I use flowershop!! it's very very strong and smells lush!!! I boil water and spray inside box with it and water! Doesn't affect animals or children and is very safe to use around house... Hope that helps! X :icon_flower:

Thanks Sarah, when next in tesco i'll have a look for it, at the moment i use a small animal disinfectant but its stripping the paint off the door. I hope eventually they will use somewhere more convinient for the toilet and will then repaint where the paint has come off.

Pinkpill ur right it is Zoflora! In tesco its in a small cardboard box next to the "dettol" etc and its about £1.50 ish BUT in Asda its 99p! Lol Asda have changed the name.  :wave:Flowershop or springtime is the stongest i find however for the smell. I have used a small dish with the liquid and water (is very strong so dont use too much :nono:) tonight with a small nail bush to clean in the corners!  :icon_thumleft:

Mine don't pee in the box anymore. The did when they were babies but my 9 weeks old female pees in the food bow. :nono:
We have ceramic food bowls for them and after they have polished of everything the little money goes and pees in it. Not sure why but I think it feels cold and they like that. ???
