I do not think you should call your enclosures aviaries, as chipmunks don't seem to fly all that much. When you change the intended function of the cage you just end up with a cage or terrarium or whatever you want to call it that doesn't have to do with things that are capable of aviation.

Webmasters reply:
I use the term 'aviaries' because nearly everyone else does. Since having kept Chipmunks i can understand why, as a lot of their equipment is also used by birds. Chipmunks love a need height, even though in the wild they are described as ground feeders, and live in burrows.

Hey, I have one male chipmunk (named Twinkie) and was interested in getting a female chipmunk. Twinkie is about 7 months and I was thinking about getting him a mate, but I like to get chipmunks when they are young (11-12 weeks). Do you think it would be akward for them to breed when the female is old enough???

hello i am planning on getting a chipmunk for myself and my daughter i have been reading about your chipmunks and was wondering do you keep yours in there aviary most of the time as we will all be at work during the day, well my daughter is in colege part time and what if we were out for the day, this is my worry? could you get back to me please. many thanks.

Webmasters reply:
I have about 8 large aviaries for my chipmunks, which is home to my chipmunks. Some live in piars some on their own. As quite often chipmunks do not get on with each other so need to live separately. Providing you give them a large enough home, say floor to ceiling they can be quite happy to spend at least a couple of days without being let out. I would not leave a chipmunk for more than a day if you have only had her for say a month. This is because chipmunks act very much like squirrels and will build up stores of dry food in their aviaries. So after the first month, providing they have access to water they can be left on their own for a few days. Most chipmunk do like to be let out for a run around your home each day, I have chipmunks that pull at the mesh demanding to be let out first thing in the mornings. But I also have others that may only want to come out only once a week. That could be because my aviaries are very big, I can walk in to them.

these articles have given me great advise on what to feed my chipmunk, chip and also toys i could use i have noticed that he likes to be in high places so climbs EVRYTHINg he can or trys to his faveourite place is ontop of my wardobes, and bookshelf he can get up and down with no problems.also he gets giddy from the smell of the soap powder off of freshly washed clothes that are almost dry which is quite amusing. he also runs at top spedd all the way round the room which is funny to watch.

Hi, I have a quick question about my chipmunks behaviour. Its about one of my young females. When I first let her out to roam free she runs about like normal. She will run back to me climb up my arm and across my head and run off again. But after a while she will run at me very fast start to bite me and run off again very fast. She will keep donig this until I have no choice put to put her back in the cage. Does this sound familiar at all to you ??

Webmasters reply:
I think she is playing with you. I have a girl that does this, she is out on free range most of the day, and when she is bored she will suddenly jump on me then run away really fast, do a quick turn, and come running back. The only difference is mine never tries to bite me. If you try to chase yours does she want to play even more, as mine does?
